Worked examples
Model ItI do
Write 3/4 as a decimal and as a percent.
Divide the numerator by the denominator: 3 divided by 4 equals 0.75. To make a percent, multiply the decimal by 100: 0.75 times 100 equals 75, so 3/4 = 0.75 = 75 percent.
Try It TogetherWe do
Order from least to greatest: 0.6, 1/2, and 55 percent.
Write each as a decimal: 0.6, 1/2 = 0.5, and 55 percent = 0.55. Comparing 0.5, 0.55, 0.6 gives the order 1/2, 55 percent, 0.6.
Now YouYou do
Write 2/5 as a decimal and as a percent.
Divide to get the decimal, then multiply by 100 for the percent. Check your answer in the back of this chapter.
